Five Things you Might Have Missed in Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z was released in 1989 and lasted for 9 seasons. Many people grew up on DBZ, specifically watching it during the evenings on Toonami (Cartoon Network). However, the seasons weren’t always continued properly and it was easy to miss things in Dragon Ball Z unless you had the entire series on VHS or DVD.

Here are the top 5 things you might have missed in Dragon Ball Z!

5. Similarities/Differences Between Sacrifices

Vegeta mimics Goku’s self-sacrifice during the Cell saga while attempting to take down Majin Buu. Not just matching the atmosphere but taking up a similar pose.  Vegeta took pity on his son by knocking him out cold so his son wouldn’t have to watch as his father vanishes. Where Goku looked his son in the eyes and used his instant transmission to remove the threat from the planet to protect everything and everyone

4. Average Human Power Level

At the start of the series, Raditz (Goku’s Saiyan brother) used a scouter to check the power level of a very out-of-shape farmer at a level of 5. Later on, when other power levels are checked, they are also shown as 5. This tells us that 5 is the lowest a living human could be. Our heroes are able to hide their power level so well that they can blend into a crowd of normal humans. Although strong humans have been shown to obtain power levels around Krillin’s in Dragon Ball.

3. Faulty Androids

Android 16 had a similar view on living creatures as its predecessor Android 8 (Eighter). Both loved all living creatures and would protect them the best they could. This became clear when Android 16 had a small bird land on him, in a similar manner Eighter had a rodent that always stayed beside him. The only difference is that android 8 (Eighter) did not have the programming to hate Son Goku.

2. Beerus Makes Shenron Nervous

The only character that Shenron has shown fear to is Beerus. Does this mean that the dragon inherits none of its personality from its creators? Or is Dende just not phased after facing down Frieza? Regardless of how you look at it, Shenron is not scared of the God-killing powers of Goku and Vegeta.

1. The Great Saiyaman Paid Homage to Android 16

The costume for The Great Sayaman at the start of the Buu saga is a wonderful easter egg to the outfit worn by Android 16. Everything from the green on the shoulders to the black skin-tight undersuit. We cannot forget the helmet matching the fire-red hair of the gentle android. Although we still cannot explain the embarrassing and silly poses Gohan performs during his time acting as The Great Saiyaman.
